Low Back Pain

 The most common problem I see in my office is .  It affects the lives of 15-20% of adults and is the most common cause of disability in the United States.  Most cases of low back pain are related to muscle strain, sprain, and spasm which normally resolve with conservative management.  Other causes of are more difficult to treat. These include:

 

            Discogenic pain (pain directly from disc disease)

            Arthropathy (back of the hip)

            Arthropathy (small joints of spine)

            (narrowing of spinal canal)

Lumbar () with leg pain as well

Myofascial Pain (muscular pain)

Lumbar Post-Laminectomy Syndrome (failed back surgery)

 

Other rare causes of back pain include infection, tumor, pancreatitis, kidney stones, and sickle cell crisis.
